Annie Besant is primarily remembered as the international president
of the Theosophical Society. One of the most important aspects of
her career were the years that she was a professional atheist,
which has given her a place in history as a pioneer feminist. The
Origins of Theosophy contains thirteen of Besant's pamphlets,
originally published from 1883-1890. This book is ideal for
students of theology.

Ukrainian-born Madame Helena Blavatsky (1831-1891) was a powerful
and controversial member of the spiritualist world and for a time
famous for her powers as a medium. She was a co-founder of the
theosophy movement in the United States, which she later extended
to Europe and India, drawing from her extensive global travels and
her familiarity with a broad range of belief systems, from Asian
religions to New Orleans voodoo, as well as secret societies such
as the Freemasons. Drawing from Hinduism and Buddhism, theosophy
aimed to understand the mystic powers of the universe and promote
the study of other religions. The first two volumes of The Secret
Doctrine were published in 1888, but this third volume was
published in 1897 by spiritualist Annie Besant from Blavatsky's
notes. It looks at some ancient spiritual teachings and mysteries,
and the development of the practice of magic.
Early Christianity held secrets equal to those of other great
religions, says Annie Besant. Its first followers guarded them as
priceless treasures. After an increasingly rigid hierarchy began to
bury these truths in the early centuries A.D., they were known only
to a few initiates, who communicated them privately, often in
obscure language. In Esoteric Christianity, Besant's aim is to
restore the secret truths underlying Christian doctrine. As public
interest grows in the Gnostic Gospels and the mystical side of
Christianity, Besant's remarkable book, first published in 1901, is
attracting new attention.

First released in 1901, Thought-Forms was an in-depth exploration
on the visual manifestations of thoughts and the notion that they
exist as objects. Conceived by renowned theosophists Annie Besant
and C.W. Leadbeater, the book consists of 58 illustrations based on
Besant and Leadbeater's clairvoyant observations on how music,
emotions, experiences, and colors affect thought forms. Expanding
beyond its original readership, the book would have great influence
on twentieth-century art and go on to inspire many artists
including Wassily Kandinsky, Hilma af Klint, Piet Mondrian, and
Paul Klee. This updated edition features a new introduction by
famed occult author, Mitch Horowitz.
Impish little Mala loves creeping up from behind and scaring
everyone. Then her mother gives her a pair of pretty silver anklets
. . . so now she goes chik chik chum, and everyone gets to know
when she's coming! What does Mala do next? Children everywhere will
relate to this peppy story of childhood mischief. Sound words add
fun to a great read-aloud experience, while big, bold pictures make
for a dramatic show-and-tell.

2010 Reprint of 1918 Edition. This book was intended as an aid to
students in their study of the growth and development of
consciousness, offering hints and suggestions which might prove
useful to them. It is a contribution to the science of psychology.
She writes that the seed of consciousness is the Atma-Buddhi-Manas,
the Jivatma. The Super-consciousness includes the whole of the
consciousness above the waking-consciousness, like dreams, visions,
inspirations, etc. To bring the super-consciousness into
manifestation on the physical plane, Besant proposes (in the early
stages) to render the brain and sense-organs unresponsive to
physical impacts and to induce Trance. This can be done by using
the methods of Yogis. But she also says that there is a difference
between the super-physical conditions of consciousness in the
hypnotised subject and in the Yogi.
For those intimidated by Madame Blavatsky's massive and complex
tome, The Secret Doctrine, Annie Besant presents the basic tenets
of Theosophical thought in a concise, easy to digest format. While
a much easier read, this book still delivers the full spectrum and
depth of the Theosophical philosophy.
